1. The premise
Since at least 2018, users of r/NYYankees have expressed their highest regard for a player by stating that they are not gay, but would like to live in a log cabin with him. The Bureau takes no position on the first clause. The second clause is a matter of public record and is recorded here.
The phenomenon is documented in Hyerin Shin and Sue Hyun Jie, "In the Log Cabin with My Favorite Player: Appreciating Traditional American Masculinity Through Homoerotic Language in Baseball Fandom," American Studies 42-1 (Yonsei University). It is a serious paper. It is cited here as a real source because it is one.
2. The standard
Only Reddit comments decide the Resident. Every comment posted to r/NYYankees containing the word "cabin" is collected. Each one is read, with the comment it replies to and the post it sits under, and assigned to at most one current Yankee, or to none. A comment that withdraws the compliment ("he does not belong in the cabin") counts for no one.
The Resident is the Yankee with the most weighted mentions in the trailing 30 days, and holds the Cabin until another Yankee exceeds him. A quiet month evicts no one. A Resident who leaves the organization is removed the same day. Ties favor the incumbent.
Clutch Context: a comment posted during the postseason, or within 12 hours of the final out of a Yankees walk-off win or a win over a rival (Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Houston Astros), is counted 10 times. No game places anyone in the Cabin by itself. A walk-off with no comments changes nothing.
3. Portraits
Each Portrait is an artist's impression produced by a machine that has never seen the Cabin and, in most cases, has never seen the man. It is given a written description taken from his official headshot, the one Cabin, the house flannel, and one prop drawn from the comments that designated him. Likeness varies. The Bureau labels every Portrait accordingly. The 2021 photograph of Luke Voit is the Founding Portrait and is preserved as found.
4. Provenance
The Register opened on July 1, 2021. The record covers 4,018 Cabin Comments from June 1, 2021 to September 24, 2026, of which 1,717 were assigned to a Yankee. There have been 97 terms held by 35 Residents.
The first edition of this site was posted to r/NYYankees on July 23, 2021 (exhibit) and identified Luke Voit as Resident by counting names in comments. One of the paper's authors replied to that post and asked whether a Resident of the month or season could be determined. This edition answers that request. The first edition is preserved unaltered as the 2021 exhibit.
Comments are quoted verbatim and linked. Nothing is edited. Comments containing slurs are counted and not displayed. Source code and data: GitHub. Records current as of 2026-09-26 17:06 UTC.
